HITS & PITS ROUND 3

with Strung Out, Face to Face, The Casualties, Ten Foot Pole, Death by Stereo, Big D & the Kids Table, Masked Intruder and Heartsounds

You can’t knock a good thing down.

Hits & Pits is back for a third round this May!  Following two outrageous instalments the mini-touring festival is back in its original form with punk, ska and acoustic acts that are certain to knock your block off.  The first line-up announcement includes Strung Out, Face to Face, The Casualties, Ten Foot Pole, Death by Stereo, Big D & the Kids Table, Masked Intruder and Heartsounds.

The festival will take in six dates between the 9th and 18th of May.  For the first time the mini-festival will be travelling through Byron Bay on it’s way down the East Coast of Australia.

In the red corner are self-labelled top contenders, Strung Out. A band that is 25 years young in 2014 and no strangers to Australian shores; nor is their love for this country.  Melodic, driving but always technical, intricate and heavy, Strung Out and their swag of material from 7 studio albums are here to love and ruin Australian audiences.

Never afraid to turn away from a good stoush, California’s own elite Face to Face will be making their first appearance on the Hits & Pits tour in 2014.  Since the band returned from hiatus it’s been full steam ahead with the band dropping their ninth studio effort Three Chords and a Half Truth last year.  The band’s ability to write a melodic hook has never waned whilst always staying true to the So Cal skate punk sound.

The Casualties, also well into their twenties, will be in tow with nine studio albums that have influenced and paved the way for so many of the disillusioned and dispossessed.  The gritty, fast and street determination to be “fuckin’ real Hardcore Punk” is no more evident than in the 2012 release, Resistance.  The Casualties are poised, and ready, to face and fight injustice right here in Australia.

California is well represented with Ten Foot Pole in this fight.  After a 30+ year history, in various forms, the band finally made their first trip to Australia just a couple of years ago and have been dying to get back to ever since.  The band’s history is as colourful as their lyrical content with a revolving door of members never allowing this four piece to remain stagnant.

Amalgamating the best sonic elements of hardcore, metal and punk, Death by Stereo have been beating up the airwaves for the past 15 years.  Such a their dedication to their art has resulted in a loving and longstanding fan base which their 2012 effort Black Sheep of the American Dream has only added to.  With a well-known reputation for a knockout live performances their first Australian tour on the Hits & Pits festival is bound to blow many away.

Representing Boston and known for both ferocity and tenacity is none other than Big D and the Kids Table.  Not anyone’s token ska/punk band as they showed with the release of Stomp/Stroll in 2013.  Two albums showcasing the musical mastery of all members and their love of origins in ska/punk but also deriving the influence of reggae/stroll and dub. There will be dancing with these guys on the bill.

Forever fighting the good fight against broken hearts but for petty crime is everyone’s favourite criminal offenders, Masked Intruder.  A self-titled album of sugary, sunshiny pop-punk tunes about thieving, stalking and breaking and entering never fails to oddly lighten up the mood of any party.  Just don’t let your wallet out of your sight when these guys are around.

Internal Eyes made its way to many end-of-year lists in 2013, but it’s hard to believe Heartsounds would end up anywhere else. The band’s fast, melodic take on 90s skate punk influences is digestible and addictive almost making it hard to believe they find their roots in death metal.  Contrasting vocals, honest delivery and a never failing sense of urgency allow Heartsounds to capture minds and hearts, exactly what they plan to do on their first trip to Australia.
