Ray Ahn from the HARD ONS will be exhibiting some of his artwork again at Newtown Beach Buritto for viewing and purchase.
From Ray...
"Glenno Smith my good friend has always been extremely supportive of my music and art. If he were not for he, I would not have gotten off my bottom to do a lot of stuff.
Glenn, for better or worse has gone headlong into the world of his art. Utterly backing himself to produce and produce, quality after quality. A little like Ben Brown, he is indefatigable, his art always unbelievable. I envy them both, for I do not possess that rare commodity- the will-to-draw. In fact for 99% of the time I DO NOT FEEL LIKE DRAWING. To this day I do not know why this is, as drawing is neither tiring nor time-consuming.
Most of my drawings, if I produced them, would have utterly no meaning, therefore be WORTHLESS. Nothing sickens me more than producing something beautiful for the sake of nil. I could have been watching Gardening Australia re-runs on the internet. It is the likely reason I do not sit behind a desk and produce.
Drawing for Hard-ons is a stroll in the park. It is a big part of who I am, having joined the band in 1982. From the get-go I was given complete freedom to go nuts. I appreciate that of course. I just don't have that technical ability so absolute freedom is what I really need, if I am so say what I want to say.
And I do have a secret weapon. I am a bit of a smart-arse. Also a bit of a prick. I use these generally ungainly traits to my absolute advantage when drawing something. I also am a fan of surreal and/or absurdist humour. Surreal humour can and will deliver layers, often impenetrable to the outside observer. People not understanding meanings behind my art is the least of my worries in life and that is really how it should stay, unless I want to stop drawing altogether.
Anyway back to Glenn. He has organised kindly PART 2 of my portfolio series. The prints were coloured by he, there is no way in hell I could have done that. They look really nice indeed, being on glossy professional hi quality cardboard and all. Each portfolio will be housed in a spectacular oversized carry-case/folder, devised by Glenn, each will come with a certificate bearing my signature and will have been in hand-numbered by me as well, out of /100.
Details for the launch for this is on the attached handbill. If you are in Sydney, it is on MON 7 DEC 6.00pm at NEWTOWN BEACH BURRITO COMPANY. We will sell these portfolios and if you come to the exhibition that will be held there, we will sell individual prints too.
Thanks very much to Glenn. Would not know what to do without him sometimes."
