THIS TOUR HAS NOW BEEN CANCELLED!
After exiting Hüsker Dü, the granddaddy of alternative rock - Bob Mould - formed Sugar and released one of the most important underground rock albums of the early ‘90s. The powerful and ever-fresh debut album Copper Blue, written and co-produced by Bob Mould, was a pivotal moment for alternative rock laying the foundations for the surge of alternative rock and power punk of the 1990s as well influencing some of today’s rock icons.
The album draws on the punk of Hüsker Dü and tempers it with prominent melodies and mature writing. Copper Blue uses the classic three-piece set-up together with a smattering of synthesizer, a touch of harpsichord and a fistful of bite. It remains a landmark moment for the power punk and alternative rock genres, celebrated for its thick and aggressive guitars, infectious melodies and expressive lyrics.
The album was a blistering success far eclipsing the sales for his previous outfit and was voted Album Of The Year (1992) by NME. As well as spawning four singles - Changes, Helpless, A Good Idea and If I Can’t Change Your Mind - it also contained the stone cold Mould classic Hoover Dam. Even now Mould still seems pleasantly surprised by its success. “I got lucky,” he says. “It’s one of those records that sounds like it’s 20 years old; it sounds like it’s 50 years old; it sounds like it was made last week.”
After twenty years, an album reissue, a solo turn, an autobiography and a tribute concert where the likes of Dave Grohl and Ryan Adams paid homage to him, Mould is still kicking ass and taking names and brings Copper Blue back to be experienced as it should be - live and on stage. This classic album will be played in its entirety, along with a healthy dose of Hüsker Dü and solo tunes including tracks from Mould’s new album, Silver Age with current band of Jason Narducy (bass) and Jon Wurster (drums
