Somerset Thrower announce new album Take Only What You Need to Survive out July 11th on Smartpunk Records

Hailing from Long Island, NY, Somerset Thrower was founded by four friends who share a love of all things rock and roll. Built on punk and hardcore roots, the four-piece blends raw energy with melody-soaked textures to create something both urgent and timeless. Today, the band share their first new music in four years with the reflective single "Never Going To Therapy" and announce their third album, Take Only What You Need to Survive, set for release July 11th through Smartpunk Records.

Led by a gleaming guitar riff and yearning vocals "Never Going To Therapy” perfectly encapsulates Somerset Thrower’s early ‘00s alternative meets punk approach. Melody and sincerity pine through every note, as the lyrics glance back on steadfast youth. The video features a live performance from the band with an unexpected sci-fi twist.

On the song, vocalist Frank Traficante shares:
“This was the first song we wrote for the record and it inevitably became the first single. As we continued writing, I wasn’t sure of its place on the album. The band convinced me it was good and Jon [Markson, producer] made it come to life in the studio. It reflects on being young and pure and standing on your convictions as an artist. It’s as tongue in cheek as it is sincere.”

Produced and mixed by Jon Markson at Animal Farm Studios (NJ), Take Only What You Need to Survive captures Somerset Thrower at their most dynamic—equal parts cathartic and anthemic, with soaring guitars, driving rhythms, and unshakable hooks. It’s the sound of a band making music purely for the love of it. Influences pull from Jimmy Eat World, Garden Variety, and Seaweed, which translate to a natural nostalgic feel throughout the album’s songs while still giving a modern sound. The record serves at Somerset Thrower’s fourth overall release, having debuted in 2015 with the Falling Swingers EP and following 2020’s well received Paint My Memory LP. Throughout Somerset Thrower’s ten-year tenure, the band has shared the stage with Rival Schools, Taking Back Sunday, Supercrush, Glassjaw, Drug Church, The Movielife, Iron Chic, Taking Meds, and more.

Take Only What You Need to Survive is Somerset Thrower at their best: driving, dynamic, and honest. The album is available for preorder now through Smartpunk Records.
