On December 13th, Thailand based hardcore band Whispers will release their Flatspot Records debut, Yom-Ma-Lok. Having already shared the crushing single “Retribution,” today the band reveal the absolutely menacing “Close Your Eyes.” The heavy-hitting track exemplifies why the band have earned the identifier “Bangkok Evilcore” as they unleash immense riffs and thick, panicked vocals. The cinematic video for the songs follows the story set forth in “Retribution” with a horror movie storyline and earth-shaking performance from the band.
Diving into the songs lyrics, the band share:
“This song is talking about how your life always has some bad people around and all those bad people don't care about you or anybody, they will live their whole life with their bad attitude. Sometimes peace is not an answer if you would live your life with them. When the time comes when we run out of patience , we will judge them by fighting them back.”
Originally formed in 2014, the band picked up steam in 2021 with the release of their Narok Bon Din EP grabbing international attention. Hitting the studio in Spring 2024, Whispers set out to make a heavy, intense record that connects on an emotional level. The band worked with Suchai at Sixthirty Recording Studio in Bangkok to hone in on their sound, before sending the EP to Andy Nelson at BrickTop Recording for mixing and Brad Boatright at Audiosiege mastered it. Influence from bands like All Out War and Merauder comes through across the seven songs, giving a tough as nails delivery packed with menacing riffs. Guest vocal features from Jem Siow of Speed, Shaun Alexander of Demonstration Of Power, Stephen Bessac of Kickback add to the furiousity of the EP. Thematically, Yom-Ma-Lok addresses realism and human nature through a global perspective.
Yom-Ma-Lok is available for preorder now through Flatspot Records.
