Self-designated as “Bangkok Evilcore” Whispers, based out of Thailand, are bringing an immense sound to modern metallic hardcore. Today the band announces their signing to prominent hardcore label Flatspot Records (Speed, Zulu) and forthcoming Yom-Ma-Lok EP set for release on December 13th. Lead single “Retribution,” out today, exemplifies the band’s ability to deliver a grappling hardcore song made for the mosh-pit while showcasing some serious guitar riffs. The video for the song plays out in psychological horror amongst an immense performance from the band.
On the songs lyrics, vocalist Nitisart “Mike” Chaiburi shares:
“The main idea of writing this song came from my own belief that In the end, we cannot escape the consequences of the karma that we have done unjustly to each other. Even if you are big in the sky or have a lot of power, fame, and money, you cannot use those things to wash away your sins or replace the things you have done wrong to the hearts of others. We see this kind of thing continually in every social context without exception because we believe that even though we are just small humans, we have enormous desires. So we look for and want to rely on others for help anyway. In order for these people to not feel alone and discouraged, I have come to spread their frustration.”
Starting October 18th, Whispers join the Flatspot World European tour alongside Speed, End It, Life’s Question, Silver, and Mortal Form.
Originally formed in 2014, the band picked up steam in 2021 with the release of their Narok Bon Din EP grabbing international attention. Hitting the studio in Spring 2024, Whispers set out to make a heavy, intense record that connects on an emotional level. The band worked with Suchai at Sixthirty Recording Studio in Bangkok to hone in on their sound, before sending the EP to Andy Nelson at BrickTop Recording for mixing and Brad Boatright at Audiosiege mastered it. Influence from bands like All Out War and Merauder comes through across the seven songs, giving a tough as nails delivery packed with menacing riffs. Guest vocal features from Jem Siow of Speed, Shaun Alexander of Demonstration Of Power, Stephen Bessac of Kickback add to the furiousity of the EP. Thematically, Yom-Ma-Lok addresses realism and human nature through a global perspective.
Yom-Ma-Lok is available for preorder now through Flatspot Records.
