Planet On A Chain is made up of veterans of the punk / hc scene dating back to the ‘90s, but isn’t resting on their considerable laurels when it comes to creating explosive new music. Vocalist Dave Ackerman fronted New Jersey's Tear It Up and Dead Nation, and is backed by members of Bay Area, CA, vets from bands like Dead and Gone, Punch, Look Back and Laugh, Talk Is Poison, and many, many more. The band looks to the future with their upcoming album Culture Of Death, their second full-length offering set for release through Revelation Records on April 5th. The record spans twelve tracks of caustic hardcore punk that serves as a love letter to the genre while still reaching for new sonic possibilities.
Today, the band shares the punchy title track “Culture Of Death,” following previously released single “Cocalero.” The latest track packs plenty of snarky vocals, fast riffs and mosh friendly grooves in its two minute plus runtime. Referencing a more ‘punk’ side of hardcore while being unflinchingly heavy, the new song will appeal both classic and modern fans of the genre. The song also packs a meaningful lyrical punch, written to protest a culture of self-serving ‘leaders’. As vocalist Ackerman puts it, “The world is filled with charlatans and armchair quarterbacks. Everyone wants to tell you how something was wrong but can't tell you what right is.”
With Planet On A Chain spread across Texas and California, the music for Culture Of Death was tracked, mixed and mastered with Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden (Paint It Black, Deafheaven) in Oakland, CA and vocals where done in Austin, TX with John Petris at Come and Track It studios. The album follows POAC’s 2022 compilation Deprogram and 2023’s Boxed In, building on their urgent and impactful sound. Culture Of Death is hardcore music played by true lifers who never dropped out and returned only to relive past glory, who have continued to push their own creativity and capabilities for multiple decades. It is hardcore music delivered in the early scene's spirit of playing punk music as fast as humanly possible but with eyes kept firmly on the present and future.
Culture Of Death is available for preorder now through Revelation Records.
