This is a story about the ways we try to touch the past and pay tribute through the reconstruction of art from source materials.
Recently I was asked by Sunstroke to capture their recording session with Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios, a basement in Arlington, VA where Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Fugazi and many more have recorded over the years. I turned it into a mini documentary about documentation and how moments and ideas etched into various media like tape, disk, film, vinyl and paper form a bridge across time, often by chance.
The new 7 inch “FRANK” from Sunstroke is their latest release through NJ label Sky Valley Records. It was recorded at the legendary Inner Ear Studios, with Don Zientara. Mastered at Salad Days Studio by Brian McTernan. Artwork by Chad Leddy.
