Private Function have shared a Halloween treat with the scorching new single ‘Seize and Destroy’, the second track lifted from their forthcoming 2023 album, and the toughest song in their bulky back-catalogue.
Tipping a cap to both The Stooges and Metallica and invoking the fury of ‘80s thrash metal, the vicious new single, recorded with Chris Wright (A Swayze and the Ghosts) and mixed by Matt Duffy (Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Bench Press), boasts bone-crunching bass lines, blistering shreds and blood-curdling vocals.
Chris Penney, Private Function songwriter and vocalist, says ‘Seize and Destroy’ marks the third instalment in the Destroy trilogy.
“As a teenager I found it weird that the Stooges had a song called ‘Search and Destroy’, and Metallica have a song called ‘Seek and Destroy’, so I wrote part three, ‘Seize and Destroy’, which marks the finale of those two songs.”
To celebrate the release of the new single, Private Function are debuting the official visuals for ‘Seize and Destroy’, a high-octane, savage and bloody affair of a music video, depicting the band jamming in the bone-shivering woodlands while gradually realising they’re being hunted by a familiar fruit friend.
‘Seize and Destroy’ the second single lifted from the band’s forthcoming record landing in early ’23, showcases the band’s unwavering ability to zigzag swiftly between genres.
By continually poking holes in the genre, Private Function might strive toward the intersection of rock, punk and satire, but their new body of work proves they’re not just a group that should be taken seriously, but that they’re – most importantly – still on top.
