Private Function have spilled the beans on their long-overdue return with news their eagerly-anticipated third LP, recorded with Chris Wright at Sunset Pig Studios (A. Swayze & the Ghosts, Obscura Hail, Full Flower Moon Band), will arrive in February 2023, while ending their two-year silence with the first album cut, ‘I’m This Far Away (From Being The Worst Person You’ve Ever Met)’ and announcing an Australian capital city tour.
The latest slice of new music since the band’s imposing 2020 release Whose Line Is It Anyway? stormed the ARIA charts and captured global attention, ‘I’m This Far Away (From Being The Worst Person You’ve Ever Met)’ is a fiery pub-rock number about pushing back against the man when faced with a tidal wave of societal pressures, criticism and expectations, and is inspired by the words Clint Eastwood (probably) said to his enemy.
“You’ll love it the first time you hear it, and after your second listen it will be stuck in your head till the day you die. You have been warned.” - Private Function.
To champion the new single, Private Function have announced a run of capital city tour dates, stopping off in Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide before touching down on home turf in Melbourne, where they’ll share another hearty serving of new music from the upcoming record.
Having spent the better part of five years crafting a solid reputation as one of the country’s most explosive, unpredictable and essential live bands, Private Function are an outfit whose on and off-stage reputation precedes them at every turn.
Simultaneously combining their distinct brand of bratty humour and punk-rock irreverence with the majesty of rock and the pageantry of roll, Private Function’s feverish following should come as no surprise to even a casual observer, with their devotees constantly riding the PF tsunami alongside them.
By continually poking holes in the genre, Private Function might strive toward the intersection of rock, punk and satire, but their new body of work proves they’re not just a group that should be taken seriously, but that they’re – most importantly – still on top.
