End Hits Records will reissue Shelter's "The Purpose, The Passion" along with all 3 issues of War On Illusion fanzine.
In the early 1990s, the hardcore-punk scene was open to new influences and ideas as never before. Therefore, spirituality became a part of it and bands like Shelter, 108 and Prema were formed combining punk rock and Vedic philosophy.
Besides founding Equal Vision, Ray Cappo and Porcell (Schism Fanzine, Youth Of Today, Judge, Project X) also wanted to show the background of their newly found lifestyle by publishing a fanzine and talking to other musicians who were interested in Krishna Consicousness and Far Eastern tenets.
The WAR ON ILLUSION fanzine was born in which Porcell tried to explain what motivated and inspired him and others in three issues with columns, tour reports and interviews.
For the first time, all three issues are combined in one zine with reproduced original layouts and exclusive interviews with Youth Of Today, Snapcase, Baby Gopal, Prema, 108, Downset, Sepultura & Texas Is The Reason. Additionally, there is an in-depth interview with Porcell led by Javier from "Where It Went Podcast."
Although in 2001 SHELTER planned to break up after their comeback hardcore record "When 20 Summers Pass" the legendary band from New York City belt out another record titled "The Purpose, The Passion." While Porcell left the band to start a family, Ray "Raghunath" Cappo moved to Los Angeles to study martial arts and to become a yoga instructor and nutrition consultant. Ray, as the only original member, felt he had one more album left in him, which resulted in the release of "The Purpose, The Passion."
With the help of the Swedish multi-instrumentalist Supergrass and the drummer Dave DiCenso (heard on SHELTER's "Mantra" as well as on various CRO-MAGS albums) Cappo recorded "The Purpose, The Passion." This album has 16 pop-punk tracks with Cappo's usual spiritual and uplifiting lyrical message. The album’s hard-hitting punk-rock sound pairs perfectly with Cappo’s catchy melodies which stick in your ears.
The completely remastered version of "The Purpose, The Passion" is now available on vinyl for the first time in over 20 years with completely redesigned die cut cover with two covers to choose from.
