Superchunk reanimate their Halloween digital single tradition a day early with “There’s A Ghost” b/w “Alice,” available everywhere now. “There’s A Ghost” is the first original number from the North Carolina legends since 2018’s What a Time to Be Alive and its surrounding singles, a paranoid parable about the perils of being shut in too long with only the voices inside your head for company! Its b-side is a cover that breaks with Superchunk’s Halloween tradition of Misfits covers (children, relive the horror if you dare) and instead opts for the classic 1983 track “Alice” from another band favorite, The Sisters of Mercy.
Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan on how the single came together:
I didn’t write a song for probably the first 6 months of the lockdown. This is one of the first and it came just in time for Halloween. Jim and Jon came over with their masks on, and Laura tracked her bass in her bass-ment. Try and get some fresh air when you can, people!
