Jacob

Wollongong/Newcastle band Jacob have today announced details of their second studio album, Show Me Some Passion. The LP is set for release on the 2nd of November, with launch show dates to follow. With the announcement comes the news of the band signing to punk/hardcore label Resist Records, joining the likes of Parkway Drive and long-time friends Oslow, among the roster.

It's been an eventful five years since Jacob first started playing shows. The emo revivalists have undergone line-up changes and have played up and down the east coast with an impressive cast of national and international bands: Against Me!, Luca Brasi, Tigers Jaw, Joyce Manor, Hockey Dad, Trophy Eyes, Tired Lion and Ceres, to name but a few. The band also had the opportunity of performing at the Yours and Owls Festival in 2017.

Despite being split between the two steel cities of New South Wales – Wollongong and Newcastle – the current incarnation of Jacob is tighter than ever before. With bassist Ruari Burns taking lead vocals for the first time, they look to redefine and reintroduce themselves with Show Me Some Passion: a catchy, energetic album filled genuine emotion and lyrics so romantic you’d swear they were singing the song just for you.

Listeners may well already be across the band's 2017 single, How Long Until You're Next to Me? Scoring support from triple j, the track was described as “tight, cool and [with] swathes of great melodies” and holding “that nice mixture of sharp and sweet” by triple j staff.

The track has been re-recorded especially for Show Me Some Passion, alongside studio versions of long-time live favourites such as How I Get Sometimes and Special Kind of Love. Recorded at Newcastle's Woodriver Studios, the album was produced by Aaron Dobos (Ceres, The Avalanches, Britney Spears) and recorded by Joe Andersons, who worked with the band on their self-titled 2016 debut. The album also features the “oh so sweet” harmonies of Canberra band Moaning Lisa, as well as horns from local ska enthusiast Geoff Reid.

Watch the second video off the album for the track "The Rain King"...

"The Rain King is about trying to navigate personal boundaries with your ex. In this case, when you're out at the same party. I like to make a lot of references when I write lyrics; songs I'm listening to, books I'm reading, shows I'm watching. So when you're listening, you might notice little references to The X Files, Stephen King and my favourite Smokey Robinson song." says Ruairi Burns about the single.

"The video is actual live footage taken from everyone's favourite public-access television dance show, 'Move it if You've Got it', hosted by Dave Tremblane. Of course, we totally made that up. But we just loved the idea of doing a video that looked like a segment of 'Chic-A-Go-Go'."

Ahead of the album's release, Jacob have released a new single entitled Baby, I’m A Blockhead.

“The song is about knowing how to be that ideal person for your loved one even though you are definitely not being that person at all…” says Andrew Jago about the single.

“We made sure to throw in as many references as we could from the boy band New Kids on The Block into the song too. Those NKOTB boys were just as lovesick as we are.”
