Writer/director Scott Crawford and director of photography Jim Saah are roughly halfway through production for Salad Days: The DC Punk Revolution, a documentary on the 1980s Washington, DC punk scene expected out in 2013. Among those slated to be featured in the film are Ian Mackaye (Dischord Records, Minor Threat, Embrace, Fugazi), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Scream) Henry Rollins (SOA, Black Flag), John Stabb (Government Issue) and many more. Scott Crawford, was a fanzine writer himself back in the early 80s doing 'Metrozine'. As a 12 year old Scott Crawford witnessed many of the bands that would help define the DC aesthetic of the 1980s. Almost 30 years later, he interviews many of the same personalities he spoke with as a wide-eyed fan. In the process, the story of arguably the most important punk communities of the '80s unfolds.
Salad Days is slated for a 2013 release. Here's the film's description, from the official Facebook page:
"'Salad Days: The HarDCore Punk Revolution' will be the most comprehensive, honest and insightful look at the DC punk scene from the early 1980s to the decade's end. The film will include exclusive archival photographs, concert footage and interviews with dozens of bands, artists, label owners, zine publishers and others who helped mold and nurture DC’s underground community during this inspired decade of music."
