POISON CITY ANNOUNCES THE MEANIES LP REISSUE SERIES
Poison City and Melbourne's seminal punk-rock champs The Meanies are diving back into the vaults to re-master and re-issue their classic early releases, 'Come N See', 'Gangrenous', 'In Search Of' and '10% Weird' on vinyl.
The Meanies LP reissue series will include the 1991 debut album 'Come N See', both 'Gangrenous' and 'In Search Of' EPs on a single Gatefold LP and the 1994 classic '10% Weird' on 2xLP, remastered, repackaged and with select bonus tracks.
Forming in 1989, The Meanies' catchy-as-hell, buzz-saw style of punk rock and a reputation for blistering and often dangerous live shows quickly gained a cult following across Australia. After releasing several sold-out 7"s via influential Melbourne indie label/ shop Au Go Go Records, The Meanies unleashed their debut album 'Come N See' in 1991 which saw the band tour consistently to growing crowds across Australia and perhaps most importantly, cultivating a large all-ages scene. As well as releasing the 'The Meanie Of Life' and 'Televolusion' compilation albums, the always prolific Meanies also managed to squeezed out the 'In Search Of' and 'Cruelty's Fun' EPs between 1992-93, before heading to Seattle to record album number two. Spawning the singles 'Conan', '10% Weird' and 'Ton Of Bricks', the release of the '10% Weird' record in 1994 saw The Meanies become one of the Australia's most popular alternative bands through the mid-90's, scoring them supports with the likes of Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Superchunk and Fugazi.
'The first time I met Wally and Link was outside a Fish & Chip shop in Hamilton (regional Victoria) sometime around 1994. I doubt they remember. But at that moment in time it was a huge to deal to this teenage country kid and a handful of high school friends that were just discovering Australian bands like The Meanies, Something For Kate, Screamfeeder and Magic Dirt. The fact that this band that I was obsessed with had not only travelled out to the country to play for 50 ratty kids at a local Push event, but were happily hanging out and answering our dumb questions totally blew my mind. It was really that first experience of seeing The Meanies play with such a ferocious energy and recklessness, while never coming across as rockstars that turned me onto many other greats of Australia's underground music scene during the 90's. It's a total honour to be involved in reviving these early Meanies recordings. Whether The Meanies passed under your radar or you were too young at the time, these records are a crucial part of the Australian independent music landscape.' - ANDY (Poison City Records)
'Come N See' LP and the 'Gangrenous/ In Search Of' Gatefold LP is due out Dec 2014. '10% Weird' Gatefold 2xLP re-issue is out Feb 2015 via Poison City Records.
Having navigated punk rock's pot-hole ravaged road for more than two decades, The Meanies continue to forge on with occasional live shows, international touring and recently announcing their 'Silver Jubilee - 25 Year Anniversary' Tour happening during October. Tickets on sale now!
