Maggot Mass will close out the four day Maggot Fest IV at Northcote Social Club on Cup Day (Tues Nov 5) with Cuntz, Terrible Truths, Gentlemen, Brisbane's Sewers and Shovels
Cuntz fresh from a US tour that saw them playing alongside Spray Paint, Destruction Unit and GG King as well as the always amazing Goner Fest, bring their inimitable style of Aussie punk to the ugliest day of the calendar – Cup Day.
Their album Solid Mates on Homeless has the potential of becoming a thug punk classic and live they sit/crawl somewhere between feedtime, pub/yob rock and car break-ins.
Terrible Truths are back! Back in Melbourne and back rocking that sweet post punk. The three piece have their debut album on the way but in the meantime get excited that they are included on Maggot Mass. Believe me, Rani, Stacy and Joe are in fine form.
In a short time Gentlemen have become one of the most dynamic and loudest bands in town. A ferocious guitar attack, thumping drums and shredding vocals makes for some loud, dumb and brilliant rock and roll. Their demo cassette Sex Tape is due to be reissued on vinyl by Homeless and a new 7" on US label Jeth-Row. Band to watch.
Sewers are Brisbane's thug punk kings. A bottom-feeder band, their Hoisted LP on Homeless combines the cunning of the Country Teasers, the wonk of The Fall and a Killdozer scrawl. It's a stew of Australia's finest deadly exports like King Snake Roost and Lubricated Goat.
Shovels have been described as "a gross slurry or masculine drift of sewage that would probably eat away at your shoes if you dip your toes in it for too long." Throbbing bass, discordant guitar, rolling tribal kit bashing, and explosions of noise that sound like "dying cattle in a tarpit." With members based in both San Francisco and Melbourne, they don't play often. Be sure to catch a rare Melbourne performance.
