EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING "'WE GOT THE BEAT' and 'GET UP MORNING' FROM THE UPCOMING RELEASE 'SO MANY THINGS'
RELEASED 21 OCTOBER 2011 SR04 FUSE
Fuse is thrilled to announce the forthcoming release of ‘SO MANY THINGS’, the singles and rarities collection from Melbourne’s Eddy Current Suppression Ring, to be released on the 21st of October. This much-awaited release is a must-have collection of 22 rare 7" recordings and non-album tracks from 2004-2011.
“Eddy Current Suppression Ring are the shit. Like a roadside IED just waiting to blow the paint off the hype-Humvee, their brand of proto-punk doesn’t pretend to be anything that it ain’t. Just good old-time Aussie rock, sans the gimmicks.” – TIM SCOTT, MESS + NOISE
“Eddy Current Suppression Ring crank out tunes at a rate of knots.” – DOM ALESSIO, TRIPLE J
“At its best, their music is exhilarating and effortlessly sexy” – GEORGE PALATHINGAL , THE AGE
“When spat with the passion and venom Brendan congers, it’s impossible not to be caught up in Eddy Current Suppression Ring’s sincerity and sheer energy.” – FASTERLOUDER
“…we’re fully primed in their rough-and-ready, mile-a-minute garage-rock ways” – NME
“… mesmerizing” – PITCHFORK
Does one need to introduce Eddy Current Suppression Ring at this point in time? Perhaps not, but it should be noted that they remain one of the high points – if not THE highpoint – of Australian rock & roll in the past 5 years.
Forming humbly in 2003 at a vinyl pressing plant Christmas party, the foursome have gone from AMP Awards to ARIA nominations to festivals in a short whirlwind of rock/punk awesomeness. After the 2006 release of their debut full-length, the band struck even harder in 2008 with the critically lauded Primary Colours, an album that scored them an ARIA nomination for Best Rock Album, a J-Award nomination and a candidacy as Triple J Australian Album of the Year. Grabbing the gong as Best Independent Hard Rock/Punk Album at the 2008 Jagermeister AIR Awards, the album went from strength to strength ultimately taking out the 2009 Australian Music Prize [AMP]. The most recent album for the four came in 2010 with the acclaimed Rush To Relax, the band described aptly at this point by Mess + Noise’s Craig Mathieson as “plainly on a hell of a roll”.
As members pursue other projects (Total Control, Boomgates), the band is on a temporary hiatus but in the meantime Fuse presents a real treat in So Many Things: a collection of their many out-of-print singles and a few other rarities thrown in.
That’s 22 tracks, including versions of Aussie punk legends the Chosen Few’s ‘There’s A Lot Of It Going Around’ and The Go-Gos’ ‘We Got The Beat’, and all of it possessing that distinctly Australian brand of Aussie garage punk ECSR has made their own.
This is no mere odds & sods collection; for the band their 7” releases were just as important as their full-length LPs, so expect wall-to-wall high-energy quality throughout. Considering the limited nature of the many singles ECSR has released (some on tiny overseas labels), So Many Things will for the vast majority of listeners be a brand new experience.
