Why is this site called Rest Assured?

Well it’s a continuation of the print fanzine, Rest Assured that took its name from a Hot Water Music song. The zine was around between 2003-2005 and it used to cover a broad range of Australian and International bands of differing styles and sounds. Through the website, the intention was to pick up where the zine left off.

How often is the site updated?

The news section of the site is often updated twice, three times or more a day, so to stay on top of things you'll have to check in regularly or throw us a like on our facebook page so our updates hit your news stream. The other features are basically done when the interviewees respond to the questions we've sent through to them.

How come your updates don't show up in my Facebook news feed anymore?

Basically Facebook set about restructuring user's news feeds in order to entice pages to take out advertising. Its easy to solve the problem, simply:

1. Ensure you interact with us. Throw the occasional post a like or comment. No, we're not trying to boost our stats, but research tells us that Facebook assumes you don't really want to see our posts if you haven't interacted with the page. and won't show all of them to you.

2. Hover your mouse over the "Liked" button and ensure that "Show in News Feed" is Selected

My mate’s band are heaps sick, why aren’t they featured on Rest Assured? What does he have to do?

Simply send us emails with your news blurbs, add us to your mailing lists, keep us up to date with what you are doing. Submit your shows in the Show Listing and maybe send us through a copy of some music. If we like what you’re doing, we'll definitely be in touch.

I'm in a band / run a label. Why isn’t my release reviewed on Rest Assured, what do I have to do?

Sure thing. Post through your release with a basic bio and we will give it a listen. The more it fits in with the genre of music we tend to cover, the better chance it has of gaining a mention or further exposure. Please do look around the site so you know what you are sending us is relevant, if you are not sure, e-mail us and ask.

Do you accept digital review submissions?

Sure we can handle that. Please make sure the files are ripped at a high quality and supply us with a link to download (try mediafire, yousendit, sendspace etc). Please do not send MP3 files via email, as that’s a sure fire way to clog up our inbox and not get reviewed.

I sent through a CD for review and it didn't get mentioned?

Sometimes we don't get enough time to review everything and other times we really aren't that into the release at all. Rather than totally rubbish some one's hard work and effort, we choose to not say anything about it. You remember what your Mum used to say right?

Fuck that man I want my CD back then?

All unwanted CDs sent through in 2011 were donated to the Smith Family via the Annandale Hotel's charity drive. This way hopefully your CD finds a more loving owner or even a new found fan. Think of it as double the exposure, man.

How can I advertise on Rest Assured and how much does it cost?

We're always looking for ways to help spread the word about Rest Assured, so are always open to these kind of suggestions. Do you guys pay for photos?

Nope, sorry we simply don’t have the budget for that, as we barely covering operating costs as it is. We can perhaps help you gain access into a show or a photo pass to cover a show for us in return for the use of some pics. Drop us an email and a link to your portfolio and we’ll be in touch.

Can I do work experience at Rest Assured?

As a policy, we don’t rotate banner ads, once you’ve booked a banner, only your artwork will appear for the designated period in that banner space. Nothing worse than having to refresh your browser three or four times to see your ad. Currently and until demand dictates otherwise, all banner ad positions will repeat on every page of the site.

The majority of our audience are not solely MP3 collectors and still believe in owning music in a physical format be that Vinyl, CDs or Cassette Tapes. They still read lyric sheets and even fanzines too. They regularly attend shows and tours and have actually heard and like the band whose merch they wear.
